Though security lighting is essential outside the house, it is also equally important inside the house. There are many automatic devices available, which can turn the lights on and off inside the house in a random fashion, thus creating the impression that you are inside and are still awake hence deterring thieves from breaking in. You can even install a central switch, which can turn on the lights of the entire house at one go.
