Bring a Piece of the Country into the City with Rustic Lighting
The warmth of a fireplace is an amazing feeling. It radiates heat, heightens you body
temperature, makes your blood flow better and gives a sense of good health overall. Today,
as real fireplaces become less common, or aren’t in use, it is a feeling that is alien to us.
If you are one of the fortunate ones who have experienced a fireplace or better still, have one.
Well done.
As well as the warmth, the fireplace creates an incredible light that can only be described
as rustic. To replicate this feeling, this sensation, without knocking out a wall and carving
a hole through your roof, there are many light fixtures available which will give you a similar
sensation and put you in the same place.
Rustic lighting is generally older-style. You wouldn’t find many examples of contemporary or
modern lighting in a rustic style. Rustic is rough around the edges and doesn’t display the clean,
minimalist lines that we are familiar with.
Rustic lighting is rugged. Rustic lighting is coarse. As much modern lighting is focused in
one area, rustic lighting is all about the power of the light breaking out of a confined space
and reaching into far places. This style of lighting is extremely sensuous as it is all about
the effect on your eyes, on your skin, sometimes even the smell or the sound, if you have an
oil lamp which emits a crackle of the burning fuel.
This picture sounds ideal in a log cabin or a house in the country but what about my urban
dwelling? Rustic works perfectly in the city as it gives a unique feeling, adds character and
grants an escape from the city with just a light. Its nice to have a country retreat in your
city home.
