The Rustic Feel of the Rustic Lamps
The quiet of the country and the buzz of the city are two very different scenes. Wherever
you are, you can tell which one you are in. Without even looking out of the window you know
exactly where you are. The two are wildly different but both can enjoy the spoils of rustic
lamps. Rustic lamps are born in the country but can reside very well in the city.
Rustic lamps deliberately have an old appearance with the bases normally made of metals like
pewter, copper and bronze. They have a tarnished, used appeal. If they are not metallic then
they are made of the timber that is common in the countryside. Rich maples and oaks can often
be seen in rustic lamps as they typify the image they trying to creating. Then the lamps that
are housed in glass can come hand-blown or frosted.
Hand-blown glass, with stretches, lumps and bubbles add to the old, rustic, handmade feel of
the lamp. It is transparent but the imperfections in the glass have an effect when the light
is turned off. It exudes uniqueness. A one-off.
Frosted glass is not the white frosted glass we are familiar with now in modern lighting. It
has a slightly yellowish tinge so when the light bulb is placed inside it seems like a flame
is within. To add to the appearance you can purchase bulbs in the shape of a flame so through
the frost you get that uneven look with the intense light in the middle diffusing outward.
The effects are to give age to the lamps. Even if they are made today, the techniques employed
above can add age and warmth to lights you want. That is how a rustic lamp is created.
