Bring the Past to the Present with an Oil Lamp
If you require a lamp that is stylish, practical and different, an oil lamp may be
the purchase for you. Oil lamps have been around for many years as they were prevalent
in the home when electricity was not available to all. It was the light of choice when
working outdoors, at dusk or during the night. Power sources were hard to come by in
places like forests and highways or anywhere where outdoor work had to be completed.
As they are steeped in such history, to own one now, even a modern construction and not
an antique, is like having a piece of the past in your home.
The oil lamp was also known as the kerosene lamp for many years as that was the particular
fuel that was used in many lamps. This was because of safety and efficiency issues.
The oil lamp name stuck as it was so well-known. The fuel has changed again as
technology has brought other liquids onto the scene so the lights last longer and
shine brighter.
As it is not powered by electricity the two main things you notice are, that no
electricity cables run from the lamp and that you need a naked flame to ignite the lamp.
The first point is very good is you are wireless-centric or prefer to have more
uncluttered look. The second point makes you more conscious of the light. Most people,
leave on appliances and drain power. With an oil lamp you make the decision to turn it
on and the decision to turn it off. It is a focal point and draws your attention to it.
Which is good as they are normally so beautiful that they do not deserve to be ignored.
