A Lamp Went a Long Way to Get Here
The humble lamp seems so simple, so innocuous, so easy. This is an electric
world we live in and we are used to the technology that is around us. The lamp
barely seems like technology as it has been with us for so long. We have all
forgotten that pre-Edison, the lamp was a fiery torch. Actual fire in the home.
Not really in keeping with health and safety features of lighting today.
Beyond that English and American scientists devised lamps which were constructed
of a mixtures of gases and their reaction to each other. This was only used in
industry as the gases, that were inert by themselves, were highly combustible if
mixed with other elements. Mini-explosions are not what most home-owners wanted
in their house.
Then, electricity and the modern lamp, as we know it, were invented and the rest
as they say is history. In the early days, bulb elements were not made of tungsten
but nature fibers so lamps didn’t last long. Over time the technology that is
invisible to us is ever evolving the lamp.
Lamps that only lasted for a matter of hours now come with multi-year guarantees
as standard. They can be ‘on’ indefinitely with no ‘rest’ time needed for the bulb.
They use energy saving technology so they keep your power bills low. They go to all
levels of brightness that a football stadium is easily lit with lamps.
This is the lamp as we know it. Where the lamp will go we can only look to the
lighting manufacturers of today with their multiple lines boasting efficiency, style
and function. The lamp deserves a place in all our homes and offices.
