Prescribe Good Interior Lighting for Yourself
Whether in a sparkling tropical climate or bearing up to another day of
miserable wet weather you will be spending most of your day indoors.
Guaranteed. Interior lighting is important to you. Is it as important
as your health? In many ways the two themes are inextricably linked.
The two topics could not seem further apart but the wrong lighting could
be adversely affecting your health.
Your eyesight could be put under terrible strain if you work or read in a
dimly lit area. In these work or activity spaces, brighter, more solid
lighting is necessary to complete your tasks. Wattage should be at least 60
watts if not much higher. If working a lot at night because of shifts consider
buying night bulbs. Although not brighter these mimic the effect of the sun to
your eyes. Your eyes read the light as 'real' as opposed to artificial so you
eyes immediately feel better.
If in a relaxation area of the house, consider dim lights or lights fitted with
a variable dimmer switch. If the light it too intense then the relaxing you want
to do may not happen. The tension you may feel from your day will stay with you
as you have not physically registered it as down time. This can adversely affect
your sleep and your energy levels for the next day.
General mood can be affected by poor lit areas. Not poorly lit in terms of brightness,
but in terms of style. If you are going to spend a lot of time in an internal area you
want the lighting to be warm, comfortable, becoming. If you feel negatively toward an
area or a task this can effect your general well-being.
We never like going to the doctor or the chemist but if we can reduce these
instances we'd be much happier.
