The More Lamps, the Merrier
The amount of ways you can light a room, or a space, is practically infinite.
The most basic way to light a room would be with a simple ceiling light hanging
from the center of the room. No lamp shade, no design elements, just a bulb.
A simple light. Another way to light your space would be to have hundreds of
lights, from antique lamps to floor lamps, desk lamps, table lamps, wall fittings,
track lights all with their little purpose to create a greater look. The permutations
in between these two extremes are immeasurable. This is why lamps and lighting, and
your use of it, is so gratifying. You are in charge.
Even if you choose the most basic lamps you can create your own custom feel. If you buy
one standard lamp, you think others will see what you see. True. If you have two, then
it is likely that your complete lighting effect is wholly unique. Then, you can experiment
with varying bulb strengths and lamp positioning. Have a floor lamp with a 100 watt bulb
beside your armchair and a 60 watt table lamp at the opposite end of the room and you have
created your own lighting space. Move the floor lamp toward the bookcase and the table
lamp to another area and change the strengths of the bulbs you have a completely different
room. It really is as simple as that.
Add in another lamp into the mix changes it again. Introduce an ornate lamp for your
mantelpiece, and you have added another dimension to the area. The beauty of lamps
is that they are so diverse and so varied that if you have one it’s great, if you
have more the results can be spectacular.
