Cabinet Lighting is Clothing for Ornaments
In each room of the house, and even outside the house, we have storage. Humans are
the great accumulators of the animal kingdom. Whether you are a hoarder, have a big
family or are the ultimate consumer, we utilize many kinds of storage to facilitate
this aspect of our character. Cabinets are prevalent in many rooms of the house.
Cabinets house all kinds of things - books, ornaments, artworks, vases and a whole
plethora of other items. It’s open storage for items you are really proud of and want
the world to see.
As well as having your items on show you can embellish their look by the type of cabinet
and cabinet lighting you choose. The choice of cabinet will normally reflect your taste
or the theme of room the cabinet will be in. The lighting is a different creature, normally
overlooked, but can be a very powerful tool in displaying your wares. Cabinet lighting can
affect the ambience profoundly.
The exact type of lighting required depends on the colour of the cabinet, if it has glass
doors, other features have to be considered. Typically, cabinet lighting usually sits at
the back of the cabinet, away from view and lights the recesses of the cabinet. If your
cabinet does not have pre-existing recesses, add small, unintrusive strip lights to the
upper back of the cabinet to give the same effect. This extra detail to your display is
important as cabinets by themselves are just empty storage spaces. The lighting within adds
form to the items within. Casting shadows on the items and creating dimension. The light
places a shroud on books, warms vases and clothes ornaments. As a whole, without the proper lighting,
your cabinet could look naked.
