Antique Lamps of Yesterday Still Light Up Today
The rule of thumb when buying antiques is don’t buy for investment, buy for love.
If you buy a lamp which you love and you will use, then it is a good investment anyway.
This is particularly true of antique lamps. The essence of a room is how it is lit, if
you dislike that element there is a good chance you will dislike the room. Choosing a
good lamp will eliminate that problem and choosing an antique lamp will add a further
dimension to the room.
The beauty of antique lamps is that they are collectables. Collectables are termed as
such because they have withstood the test of time. Good design cannot fail to add to
your space. You could have an antique as a centerpiece to your mantle and it could be
there for years, never dating, never looking tired.
Antiques stand out from regular furniture and can be a focal point to the room. Unlike
new, mass-produced furniture, an antique can be a conversation piece that attracts the
attention of your visitors. Of course, as the owner you can enjoy it too. Even a room with
a contemporary flavor can have an antique lamp complement the room.
Traditional lamps normally feature intricate handiwork from a bygone era. It is rare to
see such workmanship in many items today unless you want to pay for the privilege. Some
pieces were clearly a labor of love for the creator. Fusing together pieces of glass and
copper wiring and attaching the structure to a bronze sculpted base can be nothing but
torture to the artist but the sense of achievement on completion must have been great.
Built to last and beautiful to behold, the lamps of yesterday are timeless and still light up today.
